Gigabyte’s Convertible Ultrabook U2142 with Windows 8 and Up to 1.2TB Storage

Gigabyte, a Taiwanese motherboard maker, is joining the hybrid laptop/tablet market with its U2142. The Gigabyte U2142 looks like a classic convertible tablet, with a hinge that swivels to let you rotate the screen 180 degrees and then fold it down over the keyboard.

Gigabyte U2142 ultrabook has an 11.6 inch, 1366 x 768 pixel display and both a hard drive and solid state cache disk. It will be powered by an Intel Core i3 or Core i5 processor, and all models will feature USB 3.0, HDMI, and VGA ports as well as Bluetooth 4.0, WiFi, and optional HSPA. The convertible tablet weighs about 2.9 pounds.

Gigabyte will offer models with up to 1.2TB of storage (with a 1TB HDD and 256GB SSD) and up to 16GB of RAM. Starting price is estimated to be US$999.

Gigabyte’s U2142 convertible ultrabook is expected to be available soon after Microsoft’s Windows 8 launch on Oct 26th.
