Google now in the tablet business too?

It’s no secret that Google is working on a netbook but it looks like they are working on a tablet prototype as well. The search engine has partnered with OEM phone maker HTC to produce “several working models of a touch tablet.” It ties in to a press gathering Google announced about an Android-based device they will be showing off during CES to select HTC customers.

The tablet is going to go head-to-head against the rumored Apple Tablet. I’d have to admit, announcing to compete against a yet-to-be-revealed device is a bit funny but it does prove how big this space is going to be with the big companies dipping in.

We already know some of the specs of the upcoming Google netbook but there’s none yet for this tablet. What they did say was that it would have Qualcomm processors, some new Adobe software which will probably be for ebook reading, and of course a touch interface.

Google’s vision is to make internet access as easy as possible for everyone since the more people on the net, the more money Google makes. So the tablet does make sense in this respect, as well as the netbook.
