Google to Launch Netbook OS
Did you see this coming? I mean, right after Google Chrome was launched or when netbook hackers started playing around with Google Android on netbooks, did you ever think that Google might some day come up with an Operating System that geared for our beloved netbooks?
Well, I certainly did not see this. But it’s actually happening. And judging by the way Google announced this at the official Google blog, it seems that this so called Google Open Source OS will be heading the way of netbooks soon.
Some facts about the Google Netbook OS:
- lightweight open source OS to be available on netbooks in the 2nd half of 2010
- it will be fast, light weight
- minimal interface just like Google Chrome
- will run on both x86 and ARM chips
- it’s basically Google Chrome running within a new windowing system on top of a Linux kernel
- will support all web-based applications
And Google’s reason for coming out with the Google OS? – to give users a better alternative to existing OS available for netbooks and other computers.
Expect to hear more about this Google OS in the coming days.
