Home run for ARM: 50+ tablets based on ARM CPU this year

Netbooks were the turf of Intel with it’s energy efficient Atom processor beating out the competition. This year, ARM is stepping up to the plate to be the star of the tablet market.

A lot of the slate tablets coming out are going to be using ARM CPUs for their internals. It’s a reasonable choice since their processors have been used for mobile computing for sometime now. They have the expertise to back up the more than 50 tablets about to hit the shelves this year. Most of these will be targeted at the Chinese market though you’ll see an ARM tablet in your part of the world one way or another.

“The first tablet devices will launch in the second quarter by [mobile network] carriers,” said Roy Chen, ODM manager at ARM. “You’ll see a lot more in the third quarter.”
