HP Mini 311 shown some fan control love

I’ve been a fan (pun intended) of this netbook for a while, but from a far since I don’t actually own one. Looks like there are a few people like me as well and got the chops to put together a fan control app to control the annoying buzzing of its cooling device.
The software can be toggled to four settings: silent, low, mid or smart modes. What I’d want to find out is if this can be used on other HP models (or even other netbooks) to control those noisy fans.
