Increase your Eee PC’s Brightness with Eeectl

Are you one of those Eee PC users who are wishing that your netbook’s screen display could be brighter. Unfortunately Asus and other netbook makers won’t deliberately do this on their machines due to manufacturing costs. So along with low brightness and other standard netbook features, we users are left with more room to tweak our netbooks to improve their performances.

Fortunately for use there are tools that we can use to do this enhancements. One of these is eeectl, a software utility for controling and overclocking Eee PCs. One of the settings that you can tweak using the eeectl is the brightness of the monitor.  The eeectl lets you adjust your netbook’s backlight setting from the lowest to the ultra bright level. The ultra-bright setting can nearly double the ed/m2 value of your netbook’s display. But of course there is a trade-off to this – increasing the brightness of your netbook’s display will reduce the battery life of your Eee PC as well as change the display of black values due to the increased brightness.

But if you don’t mind those setbacks in favor of a brighter display, go ahead and check out eeectl.

    I used this today on an EEEpc 1000hd. Brightness mod worked fine. Fan control worked fine. Tried changing to the medium setting and my screen turned a solid green. I could not reboot and had to remove the battery to restart the computer. The computer works fine, but I am probably going to avoid using this software again. I would urge caution when using this for anything other than changing brightness or fan speed.

    Interesting piece of software, but it would have been nice if the article had mentioned the operating system. I wasted quite a bit of time, only to discover that this was for Win XP ONLY. Since I use a Linux type operating system, this was totally useless.

    Is it possible for operating system to be a mandatory entry on any O/S dependant article submitted via this site – as a tag, for example.
