Inside the Vaio X

If you like teardown as much as the next guy, this one from Wireless Goodness should be fairly interesting. The Sony Vaio X is essentially a very thin netbook with an 11.1″ LCD.

Sony Vaio X

  • 11.1″ 1366 x 768 LCD
  • 2.0GHz Intel Atom Z550 with GMA 500
  • 2GB RAM
  • up to 128GB SSD
  • Windows 7 Home Premium
  • 802.11b/g/n WiFi, 3G, Bluetooth, LAN
  • 2 x USB, MS card reader, SD card reader, VGA out, headphone jack
  • 3.5 hour battery life (up to 14 hours with the extended battery)
  • Weight: 0.73kg

The chassis of this netbook is just half an inch and it’s pretty amazing how they were able to fit all those things in that. As you can see, the motherboard is pretty tight and with hardware as cramped as that, you can expect some heat issues. Still it’s a marvel how much engineering was put into this to make it work.
