Intel has just announced the Intel Atom Developer Program for Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) and developers. According to Intel this program aims to provide a framework for software developers for them to create and sell software applications geared specifically for netbooks, as well as handheld devices and smartphones.

In short, the program aims to establish an iTunes-like Apps Store for netbooks.

“The Intel Atom Developer Program provides a great opportunity for developers to create useful and inventive applications that will unlock a netbook’s potential while opening a new sales and distribution channel.”

In addition, the Intel Atom Developer Program will support multi operating systems and run-time environments, hence enabling developers to use single code base to support multiple device platforms while at the same time avoiding extensive reprogramming resulting to less dev costs and time-to-market.

More details about the Intel Atom Developer Program can be found here. Goodluck folks, and give us more netbook apps please.
