iPad Mini to Rival Kindle Fire and Nook Tablets?

The smaller version of the iPad, nicknamed the iPad Mini for lack of an official name, will likely compete in the same market as the Amazon Kindle Fire and the Barnes & Noble Nook tablets.

Rumored to span around 8 inches in measurement, this device will probably have a display of 7.85 inches as well as a slimmer bezel than the full-sized iPad. This means that users will have a bigger viewing area on this device than what is found on 7-inch tablets running on Android, such as those from Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Samsung. Also, the slimmer bezel will complement the small size and make the device more portable than the iPad.

The iPad Mini is expected to have a price range of around $249 to $300. This would still make it pricier than the Amazon Kindle Fire and the Barnes & Noble Nook tablet which cost $200 apiece, yet less expensive than the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7 Plus, which has a price tag of $350.

This competitive price might drive away users from the Amazon Kindle Fire, which ate a fair amount of market share from Apple when it was launched last year. The Kindle Fire, to date, is the top tablet in terms of units sold, second to the iPad.
