Kid-Friendly Kurio Android Tablet Coming This Fall for $199 and Up

The new Kurio Android tablet is scheduled to be available in the market in September 2012. This kid-friendly gadget will come in three models: 7-inch, 8-inch, and 10-inch ones with prices starting from $199 up to $329.

To appeal to the imagination of children, it has a colorful, cartoonish user interface customized for children, complete with larger text and icons. It also comes with a removable brightly colored rubber slip case that is designed to enhance the device’s durability in the hands of children.

Under the protective case, however, the tablet is powered by a single-core 1GHz Cortex A8 CPU, 512MB of RAM, and 4 GB of storage capacity, expandable via MicroSD card. It is also equipped with HDMI out and a USB port.

The 7-inch model has an 800 x 480 screen; the 8-inch model, 800×600; and the 10-inch model with 940×600. All models have dual cameras, a 2 MP one facing the rear and a 0.3 MP one facing the front.

It is also capable of Wi-Fi b/g/n connectivity. These specifications make it rather apt for adult or teen use too, once one gets past the colorful details.

To make the device truly safe for children, parents may opt to turn on web filters or disable Internet access completely.
