Lenovo IdeaPad S10-3t with 3G added
Most netbooks sold these days have the option for 3G and HSDPA connectivity built into their logic boards but don’t have the necessary modem hardware included. . Luckily, mini PCIe 3G modems are readily available and a quick surgical procedure should give you anywhere internet in a jiffy.
The site admin of Netbooks.ph ranns posted his experience on hacking his freshly bought Lenovo IdeaPad S10-3t to add a Sierra Wireless 3G modem. The hardware of the netbook allows for easy access so adding the modem was no trouble and there was even an antenna already built-in. He did have to do some BIOS hacking to get it to work but once that was done, all that was needed to get it running was to install the necessary software and drivers. Voila! 3G connectivity!
If you have the guts to flash your BIOS (which can brick your netbook if not done properly), check out the details in the link below. He also put up a lot of images and a review for his own S10-3t and a friend’s S10-3.
