Lenovo ThinkPad Edge Laptops to Support Only Official Batteries?
What happens when your battery goes dead and it can no longer be resurrected? When your only options are to pay for a new battery or charge your laptop at all times to keep it running? And because the cost of a laptop is significantly declining by the moment, you may even think of buying a whole new laptop rather than just a pricey component!
While consumers commonly purchase third party batteries for a replacement, it appears that Lenovo’s new ThinkPad Edge E430 and E530 laptops will not have a market for them. Reports say that there is apparently a “Battery Safeguard” feature on the ThinkPad Edge that will prevent unofficial batteries from working on the laptops. Units with this feature will scan batteries for a special new chip that only Lenovo’s batteries will have and will refuse to work without it.
If this rumor turns out to be true, we hope the batteries won’t be ridiculously priced.
