Linpus Revices Android 4.0 to Run on Tablets, Netbooks with x86 Processors
Linpus is rolling out a new version of its Android-based operating system for x86 tablets, netbooks, and notebooks. The refreshed version is based on Google Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and supports common notebook and netbook hardware including HDMI, LAN, WiFI, Bluetooth, VGA, and sleep functions. The notebook version adds support for hardware is not normally found on an Android tablet.

A few years ago, Linpus made it big time in the news when Acer selected Linpus Linux Lite as the operating system for the first Acer netbooks. Unfortunately, it didn’t take long for PC makers to stop shipping Linux netbooks, instead using Windows OS. So just last year, the company added a Linpus Lite Android Edition to its lineup. This allowed companies to load a customized version of Android on tablets or other hardware.
The company is also working on a version of its Android software designed for Intel’s low power Medfield chips which will likely power future phones and tablets.
