Perhaps knowing that Microsoft is about to revitalize its clout in the desktop OS market with the upcoming release of Windows 7 which as we all know comes with a special flavor for netbooks, the Linux folks are up and about rushing up on how they could compete with this. Fortunately, it seems that they are now ready to unleash some new netbooks running the Linux Moblin platform. And they are about to announce this during the IDF.
Of course the Linux camp need to do this to regain its clout in the netbook market which was oh so conveniently taken away by Microsoft when it entered the scene. If you will recall Linux distros were the choice OS of the first Asus Eee PC and other early netbook models. Until when netbooks became such a big hit that Microsoft decided to make its Windows XP available as OS option for netbooks.
It will be pretty exciting to see how the Moblin-based netbooks will fare against Windows 7 netbooks.
