I installed Mandriva on my Asus 4G surf a week ago and overall it runs well. I nstalled it to the main HD as I like to use the SDcard for personal files and podcasts. One hint: partition the disk as one partition - no swap partition. Mandriva will complain briefly, but SD memory has finite number of write cycles. A swap partition would shorten the life of your computer.

I only have one big complaint: The WIFI under Mandriva is much weeker than it was under Xandros.

Anybody else notice this?

Sir,
what you say is absolutely correct,
Mandriva Spring 2008 8G USB key works perfectly with an EeePC4GLinux 701 ASUS, but, there are a couple of tricks to know!
(You find 'em entering "EeePC+mandriva" in a google query, on the internet).
1- do not hit F2 on boot, but ESC, choose Mandriva USB key as primary boot option,
2- if boot stops, enter:
e2fsck -b 8193
WARNING: for French keyboards,
the - sign is the ) key, no caps,
the 8193 should be entered no caps (cad, sans la touche MAJ).
Wait a little and Mandriva boots!
MORE: after a download (just have to confirm you agree), it PRINTS on an HP LJ 1020, what Xandros could never do!
But a flaw remains: I have done -by recommandation of so called "experts" an F9 on boot under Xandros- means "factory reset" and lost WIFI for life, even under Mandriva.
Can anybody help?
ASUS hotline can't help.
