Microsoft looking for Windows 7 beta testers on netbooks?

Microsoft has been sending out e-mails to certain individuals inviting them to beta test a “specialized” version of Windows 7 on lower-specced PCs, which from their spec sheets, look an awful lot like netbooks, except that they’re listed as having DVD drives. The e-mail goes:
“You are invited to join a beta trial for a specialized version of Windows 7. Your geographic location may make you a good candidate for this providing feedback on this specialized version of Windows 7. You will still have access to the Windows 7 Ultimate SKU, in addition you will be able to test this additional SKU.”
Microsoft has gone out and issued a statement saying that this won’t be a different version of Windows 7 made specifically for netbooks, but it still hasn’t clarified what version it really is. In any case, if it performs well on the PCs specced Microsoft is looking to test, with 1GHz of processing power, 1GB of RAM, 16 GB of available disk space and Internet access, then it should be good for existing netbooks and all those to come in the future.
