Microsoft Wants to Call Netbooks as – Low Cost Small Notebook PC

Low Cost Small Notebook PC, would you like to call netbooks by that long name?  If you don’t, well Microsoft surely does like that long term.  Steven Guggenheimer, Microsoft’s General Manager for Application Platform and Development Marketing Division.

Mr. Guggenheimer reason out that it’s about time that netbooks abandoned their name and start being addressed differently since apparently, these netbooks have already surpassed their main purpose which is for Internet browsing.

But for some industry analyst, Microsoft’s decision was to enable the company to reduce the number of its low-end Windows shipments. Calling netbooks as low cost small notebook PC would also require mid-range to hign-end mini notebooks to adopt higher-end versions of Windows 7. Microsoft has recently lifted the restriction on Windows 7 Starter Edition to run only 3 apps concurrently. Likewise Microsoft has also made the Windows 7 Starter Edition available worldwide and not only in certain regions.
