Motorola XOOM Gets the Long-awaited Upgrade

Seven months ago, Motorola and Verizon launched 3G-enabled XOOM tablet. They promised that a free 4G LTE upgrade would be available soon. Now, it’s finally ready.

Starting on the 29th of September, those who picked up 3G XOOM tablets can send in their tablets for free upgrades. The upgrade process will take six days to complete. The free upgrade is only available for the next six months.

By the 13th of October, Motorola will start sellign the tablet with a 4G modem preinstalled. There will be no upgrades needed. The new LTE model will cost you $499.99 when you sign up for a 2-year Verizon contract with monthly charges from $30 for 2GB to $80 for 10GB.

The Motorola XOOM features 10.1 inch with 1280×800 display, 1 GHz NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual core processor, 32GB storage, 1GB RAM and will run on Android 3.2.

You can hang on a little longer and wait for the next-gen XOOM tablet. According to rumors, Motorola is currently developing a 10-incher as well as 8.2 inch version.
