MSI GUS II, External Graphics Solution for Laptops
In 2012 CES, MSI, showed up with a unique graphics solution for laptops. The GUS II is an external graphics card enclosure prototype. It adds dedicated desktop power to laptops equipped with a Thunderbolt port.
Apart from MacBook Pros, Thunderbolt high-speed I/O technology will be soon incorporated into Intel Ivy Bridge-based laptops. The GUS II utilizes the port to connect laptops to external Nvidia or ATI GPUs for extra graphics power. However, the GUS II can increases graphics performance but needsd to use an external monitor instead of the laptop’s screen.
There were GPU solutions for laptop in the past and they all required to have an external display. Plus, those devices were not widely adopted. The only exception to this is the Power Media Dock for the Sony VAIO Z, which displays graphics on notebooks screen.
