Could this NEC tablet be the forbearer of a new tablet-netbook market?

NEC Japan have announced two new tablet PCs which feature the standard specifications of a regular netbook. Both versions will have the 512mb-1GB of RAM, 80GB hard drive and 1.6GHz Atom Processor of that found in netbooks such as Eee PCs. The 12PNC-W2/B2 will feature a 12 inch display and the second mode, the 15PNC-W2/B2 will have a 15 inch display.

Pricing and availability is currently unconfirmed.

  3. As cost of SSDs is coming down, I really don’t get why most manufacturers are putting standard hard drives in their planned netbooks now. These are machines that you’ll give to kids, or sling in a backpack and drag to university, so they’re going to get knocked about. I’ll take a 40GB SSD over an 80GB HDD any day - in fact, I did (eee PC 1000).
