The Neo eXplore X1 is now available in Philippine computer outlets for roughly $400, roughly $200 more than the price of the Asus Eee PC which is priced at $600. It doesn’t really look exactly like the Eee PC. In fact, it looks more like the OLPC with its bulky body. But the display screen is set at 7″ as well.
Here are the specs of the Neo eXplore X1:
- CPU : Intel Mobile Processir 900 Mhz
- Chipset : Intel GMS915
- OS : Windows XP - Starter Edition
- Memory : 512 MB
- Storage : 30 GB HDD
- LCD : 7″ - 800 x 480 color LCD
- Audio : Built-in-2-channel audio, speaker, and microphone
- Network : 10/100M Ethernet + 802.11 b/g Wifi
- Card Reader : SD/MMC
- USB : 2 x USB 2.0
- Battery : 6-cells Lithium ion, 3-4 hours usage time
- Dimension : 245 x 196 x 44mm
- Weight : < 1.45 kg
Compare it with the specs of the Eee PC, who wins? The only lowdown with the eXplore X1 is that it doesn’t have a VGA-out for webcam use. What do you think? Is the eXplore X1 a worthy competitor to the Asus Eee PC?

There are lots of competitions to Eee PC that are sprouting all over the place. I’m not surprised at this because it only means that they are the best. When a device is been considered as the best most of the competition will aimed to be better than the one that is dominating. It is otherwise known as professional jealousy.

[...] When I reported about one Asus Eee competitor which is currently available in some Philippine computer stores, I wasn’t aware that it was actually the Intel Classmate PC that was officially announced a couple of days ago. Engadget has a post about it through a reader who even submitted an actual picture of the Intel Classmate PC aka “Neo eXplore X1“. [...]
It sure is a competitor. Here in our place at that price that would be a better choice. $600 is too much for the same specs, people here would definitely go for a $400 notebook. But not for me, the screen is too small.
