Netbook Shipment in 2009 Grew by 79%

Who says that netbooks are dying breeds of PCs already? Actually nobody has said so yet. Although I’m beginning to think that the growing interest with tablet PCs and e-book readers is starting to affect their popularity.

But according to the recent research findings of Strategy Analytics, this may not be the case. In fact netbook shipment grew by 79% in 2009 and is predicted to grow some more in 2010. Whew! That’s very comforting indeed.

Strategy Analytics also found out that the top netbook manufacturers for 2009 include the likes of Acer, Asus, HP and Dell. I believe that’s in the order of total netbook volume shipped? In addition, the launch of Windows 7 plus the availability of mobile broadband connectivity also contributed to the growth in netbook shipment in 2009.

Total netbook shipment in 2009 amounts to 30.2 million units sold worldwide. And this is expected to grow more as chipset makers are battling it out in the pursuit of dominating the portable device market segment.
