Netbook Shipments to Reach 30M
30 Million units – that’s the expected total number of netbook shipments before 2009 ends, according to NPD’s DisplaySearch. DisplaySearch is making the prediction amidts the 20% in worldwide penetration of the netbooks into the notebook PC market. And interestingly, as DisplaySearch was making this netbook forecast, it is also predicting that the market share of traditional notebooks will remain static this year. Something which has never happened before.
The prediction was made in DisplaySearch’s Quarterly Notebook PC Shipment and Forecast Report. According to DisplaySearch, part of this prediction was due to the expected penetration rates of netbooks in Latin America which is expected to exceed 26% and 22% in EMEA countries. The lowest penetration rate was predicted for Asia-Pacific, North America and China.
Partly to be “blamed” for the growth in netbook shipments was the fact more telecoms are offering these machines as part of their mobile broadband bundles.
