New Intel ULV chips will be based on Core i5, i7
More procie news from Intel. It looks like the chip maker will also be updating their CPUs currently being used in many thin-and-lights and ultrathin notebooks in the market.
The chips are the Core i5-520UM and Core i7-640UM which will consume 18 watts of power compared to the previous Core 2 10 watts. While that might be a bit more juice that it will eat up, the new processor line will be integrating the graphics chipset already into one package. It might be a few watts more than the current CULVs but battery life would probably stay the same and users won’t notice the bump.
A few of the higher-end laptops using CULV ships based on the Core 2 architecture are the Dell Adamo and HP Envy 13. Expect the new chips to be available “in early February” and will be added to new notebooks coming out by the middle of the year.
