New SSDs from OCZ and Active Media
A couple of new SSDs have shown up this week. First up is Active Media which introduces a new version of its Sabertooth line of 1.8″ SSDs. The SaberTooth ZT Turbo ZIF SSD is a solid-state drive for your HP Mini 1000, iPod Classic and other devices that use the smaller form factor drive for storage.
It has a ZIF interface and has a read/write speed of 100MB/s and 85MB/s respectively. It comes in 32GB and 64GB flavors, compatible with Windows, Linux and Mac OS X. Prices are at US$169.95 and US$289.95, available now at Active Media’s Amazon store.
Next is the Onyx Series SSDs from OCZ. It’s different from other 2.5″ drives in that it has breached the $100 price point for its 32GB version, something few others can claim. Read/write speed for this SSD are 125MB/s and 70MB/s respectively. It’s a great option for those who value speed over storage, something most netbooks need with their slower, power-sipping processors.
