New Target – Another Sub $300 Asus Eee PC

Target customers can now pick up an Intel Atom Mobile processor powered Asus Eee PC, running Linux with 4GB SDD and 512mb RAM for a bargain price of $299. There are three colors of netbook to choose from – black, white and purple.

All three models are newly added to the Target catalogue, presumably in response to the huge sales in netbooks worldwide and in response to the popularity of sub $300 netbooks. In recent days Best Buy have also added a sub $300 netbook to it’s range which we reported about here and that was also an Eee PC, so it was only a matter of time before other large retailers followed suit.

Edited to revise processor type on the netbook – our source stated Atom however, one of our readers Don commented and brought our attention to the listing again which does state Intel Mobile rather than Atom. Thanks for the correction Don!

Are you sure about the Atom processor part? It is listed as a model 900 and with a Intel Mobile Processor (I read Celeron). To me, it seems like hybrid between the 701 and 900.

I have the Asus Eee 900 from Target and it is definitely a Celeron and Windows XP Home. There is a mistake on this page: http://www.target.com/ASUS-8-9-Netbook-Computer-Windows/dp/B001E1KREI/ref=sc_ri_1/601-1882131-4300969 as it says “Loaded with Windows XP Professional” <– this is a typo it should say WinXP Home. It is slow enough with the Home edition… hate to think what it would be like with WinXP Pro on it. :)

p.s. Only the Linux version is available in the store. You have to order the Windows version online (Target.com)
