Nokia To Make A Meego Tablet?
Tablets and netbooks aren’t the first things you think about when you hear the name “Nokia”, but since the cellphone giant already has a netbook under its belt, a tablet may not be so far off. A recent quote from the new Nokia chief of Mobile solutions, Anssi Vanjoki, seems to hint at it:
Due to the spread of cloud computing and new advances in electronics and network technology, mobile devices will increasingly move beyond smartphones to include other computer-like gadgets such as tablets, and the MeeGo platform will be an important asset for Nokia.
It should be noted that Nokia was a driving force behind the Maemo Linux project, which has now been folded into the MeeGo project. This could possibly hint that the recent rumors of a 7-inch to 9-inch tablet coming from Nokia are more than just rumors. Still, we’ll probably know more in the coming months.
