This talks/rumors have been going on as early as during the Mobile World Congress. Then things started to shape up when we reported in February 2009 that Nokia has started negotiating with Taiwan manufacturers such as Compal and Foxconn Electronics.
After that, no other information came out, until now. GigaOM is reporting that Lazard Capital Market Analyst Daniel Amir wrote in a research note, that Nokia is planning to launch the said netbook sometime in 2010. It will be an ARM-based netbook runnong Google Android mobile OS.
In addition, Amir also said that the said Nokia netbook will be distributed through mobile carriers. Something which seems pretty logical especially since Nokia after all has many tie-ups with these mobile carriers.
The Nokia netbook is distinct from another new product which started to be talked about during the Computex 2009 – smartbooks. While this may seem the most logical choice for Nokia to enter into the mobile computing market, it seems that Nokia sees more potential in the netbook market.
Sadly though, this talks have been taking too long and Nokia might want to speed up things to make this plan a reality. The netbook market certainly need a new player that could offer new things and new perspectives in order to ignite some new interests and attention.
