NOOK Tablet 8GB Rooting Now Available
Users of the Barnes & Noble NOOK 8 GB tablet who have been looking for a tool to root their tablets now have a solution.
The problem with rooting this model stems from the fact that there are two versions of the NOOK tablet: a 16 GB model and an 8 GB model, with 1 GB and 512 MB of RAM, respectively. The same tools for the 16 GB model, previously, could not suffice for rooting the 8 GB tablet as well.
A developer called juchuan89 of the xda-developers forum, however, has found a way around this issue. He offers two options: the first one is to burn a prebuilt image onto a micro SD card, and the second is to partition the micro SD card and format it specifically. He believes that the first option, which only requires a micro SD card that has a capacity above 64 MB, is much easier.
Rooting the NOOK 8 GB tablet allows users to use the Android Market and other Android functionalities that are not included in the custom Android OS from Barnes & Noble,
Still, juchuan89 gives a caveat to anyone who wants to attempt rooting the NOOK, saying that it will probably void the warranty or permanently damage the device. Also, he claims that the tool is only an experimental software.
