Posted in: 9inch, Netbook, eeepc
It looks like the bundling of 3G capability to netbooks is getting to be the norm among netbook manufacturers lately. We’ve heard various netbooks being offered by various Telcos bundled with their mobile data plan. The latest of these Telcos is Smart Philippines which is currently offering the Eee PC 904 GO netbook bundled with built-in Smart Bro modem and a Smart Bro data SIM. This would allow users of the said netbook to connect to Internet through Smart’s HSPA network.
The Eee PC 904 GO with Smart Broadband connectivity is being offered for Php 1,799 which is actually comprised of the Php799 monthly service fee and P1,000 subscription fee for the Eee PC 904 GO. In addition, the promo is tied up with a 24-month service contract which users need to apply for. In essence users are actually paying around php 45K for the Eee PC 904 GO and the data usage.
Sounds like a good deal? We don’t think so. It’s like paying the Eee PC 904 plus subscribing to a a data plan. You can buy the Eee PC 904GO at half the price of what you have to shell out for the Smart package.

Hah! What a gyp! The promo is purposefully misleading — you immediately think you’re paying a 1000 peso one-off fee and a monthly 799, but the 1k is monthly for 24 months.
Karlo, nah man. Your thought mislead yourself. You didn’t understand what you’ve read.
“Initial cash-out for the 24-month subscription is P1,000 for the laptop plus P799 for the first monthly service fee, for a total of P1,799.” OK, this is the first sentence describing the 1000+799 = 1799, first month.
“The SAME AMOUNT goes FOR the MONTHLY FEE for the package.” … So, the amount from the preceding sentence is the SAME as that of the second sentence, hence, 1799 still.
It pays to think first before you react.
