Asus has just formed a strategic partnership with Phoenix Technologies to bundle the so-called HyperSpace instant-on OS to its next generation laptops. With this agreement, we just might see the HyperSpace instant-on OS preloaded onto Asus’ upcoming netbooks, giving users a further boost in productivity by cutting down the boot time as well as the time required for Asus netbooks to shut down. HyperSpace is a nifty little software add-on that turns netbooks into devices that turn off and on almost instantly, while maintaining the core functionality for users, even allowing web browsing on the fly.

No details about pricing were revealed by either Asus or Phoenix Technologies, but JKOnTheRun has some juicy info. According to Phoenix Technologies’ PR firm, a version of HyperSpace built specifically for low performance devices such as netbooks called “Dual” will ship with the Asus Eee PC. And it will cost $39.95 for a year with an annual subscription. Didn’t see that coming, did you? Us neither. Good thing there’s a 21-day free trial provided by Phoenix Technologies to curious souls at no cost.
