2133-and-2140-front
Over at HP 2133 Guide, the lucky folks have received the newer HP 2140 and have taken several comparison photos. At first glance, the HP Mini 2140 appears very similar to the 2133 but once opened up and in use, a few changes have been noticed.

The 8.9 inch screen has been replaced with a 10.1 inch display, which has a brighter screen compared to the 2133. The speakers on the other hand aren’t quite as good on the HP Mini 2140 and are described as being about 25% quieter. The casing also appears to be slightly darker on the 2140. Other changes in the netbook include the processor being replaced with the Intel Atom N270, found on most netbooks and vents moved around.

  2. Excellent. I have poked a bit at the 2133, and it’s very nice, but I’m waiting for the better processor of the 2140. This has allayed any fears that they mucked up something else in the process.

The 2140 should really be the perfect netbook. The only flaw I can think of is the ultra-bright blue LEDs (which are supposed to be indicators, not flashlights, dammit), and that’s obviously a very minor flaw.

Can anyone who owns the 2140 tell me:

    1) Is the fan louder or more noticeable comapred to a regular HP laptop (or any laptop)? One thing I really can’t stand is a loud machine.

    2) How warm do these machines get?

I’ve owned several 14″ HP laptops (not netbooks) and they often suffer from getting warm under the left wristpad, where they place the hard drive. Although I like HP’s machines, this is a bit of an annoyance.

  6. I have the HP 2140 and until now, I actually have not heard the fan inside the 2140 at any other time than start up, and even then only for a a second or two.

  7. The leds are very bright, almost annoying, but this is such a great laptop, that things like that were easy to get used to.

  8. Battery life could be better on the 2140. I am getting abotu 3 hours with teh standard 3-cell included in delivery. however there are some optinos. From HP there is the 6-cell battery, and from Mugen there is a 7800Mah batter which claims to last over 10 hours with the 2140. here is a link

The 6-cell seems likea good deal to me, butif you are a power user or like using your mini for the entire day, that Mugen might be just the ticket.
