Pre-CES 2010: Freescale Unveils Smartbook Tablet Reference Design
Knowing fully well that the tablet market is soon to be dominated probably by both Apple and Google, Freescale went ahead of CES 2010 and officially announced a reference design for its own Smartbook/Tablet.
According to a press release sent to Engadget, the Freescale smartbook tablet will be in an ultra-thin form factor and lightweight as well at 0.8 pounds. It will run on 1GHz i.MX515 processor with 4GB to 64GB of internal storage. It will sport a 7-inch touch screen display and boasts of the following features – microSD expansion slot, optional WWAN module, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1, GPS, USB 2.0 socket, audio in/out, 3 MP web camera, inbuilt 3-axis accelerometer and ambient light sensor.
As this is just a reference design, Freescale is hoping to market this smartbook tablet for less than $200. But we’re not counting on it.
