Samsung N510 has a hinge problem

A video posted by YouTube user qwertybotlol reveals one of the ongoing issues on one of Samsung’s netbooks, the N510. The chassis splits apart from the case with a painful creak everytime it’s opened.

People over at SammyNetbook have had 13 such reports already and there are reports that 7 out of 32 units in a certain batch of N510′s had broken hinges. Even with so many reported defects (and we know that there are much more unreported ones that don’t hit the Internet), Samsung hasn’t been acting on the problem aggressively. Sure they offer the occasional replacement but they’ve denied the issue for the most part

Though these problems are mainly ‘cosmetic’ in nature, if you go by retailer’s return policy standards, the Korean computer manufacturer needs to assess the problem since it might lead to the break down of other parts. Manufacturer often recall if there is a safety issue such as what Acer and HP did when their laptops had risks of overheating.

Check out the video below.

I purchased a Samsung N510 on December 7th and out of the box it was slow. After calling tech support several times they had me send it in for repair on January 2nd. After not being able to repair my machine, on January 28th I asked for a new N510 to be sent to me. Samsung agreed and said I would have it in 5 to 10 business days. After the 10th business day and no new computer, I asked for a full refund and again Samsung agreed and said that I would receive my refund within 5 to 10 business days. It’s now February 25th and I still don’t have my refund. I think Samsung thinks I will forget about the $600 I spent on their computer and just go away. I’m not going away.
Samsung tech support is nothing but a joke and so is their customer service. All they can say to you is “I apologize for that”. It’s time for them to stop apologizing and giving lip service and start giving some service. This whole ordeal has been a nightmare.

I have exactly the same problem with my netbook. I have called Samsung and after major arguments with them, eventually they agreed to send for collection.
Explaining them that I cannot let them have the netbook for two weeks just so that they can see what and if the hinges can be fixed, their replay was that if I am not happy I should write a complaint letter. Which I did with no result so far, obviously. I decided to go down the only available router so I have been waiting for the collection guy to arrive for 2 weeks now but yes, you’ve guessed it, nobody’s arrived. I have called Samsung 5 times now and each time they’ve arranged a new collection date, never respected. Apparently the guy supposed to collect the laptop works for a company that deals with all Samsung repairs in UK:

From their website I understand that they repair freezers as well…no comment…

I am onto my 2nd N510. The first one developed a crack on the right same as in the following link

Now my hinge has gone on the left and the screw just fallen out and can't screw back in, unsure why. I think I am going to try and send it back via Amazon and see whether I can get a refund.

I bought Samsung N510 in beginning of November 2009. The hinge problem exactly as described above did happen on my netbook about a month ago.
Made a call to samsung support, they gave me a number for dealers in Dublin, Ireland who does under warranty repairs. Unfortunately for me “Fonemenders” did say that they never seen such issue before on any laptop because of manufacturers fault and I must be dropped netbook or so.

Worst laptop ever and the reviewer should comment on how flimsy the product is before us mugs buy it based on an extremely overrated review. Samsung provide no support and blame the end user for the problem. Eventually, the hinge totally self destructs and the laptop can no longer be used. I will never buy another Samsung product if I can help it.

PS Jenpoptab. It’s my video that is on that link (not hinge related though) ;)
