Samsung to Ship ARM-Based Processors for Netbooks Soon
Posted in: Netbook, accessories, tags: ARM CPUSamsung is currently developing a new ARM-based processor geared specifically for netbook use. To be called S5PV210, this new Samsung processor will be based on ARM’s Cortex A8 CPU and shall have a clock frequency of 1GHz.
What’s so exciting about this processor? Well, it shall have 32KB cache data for data and instructions, plus 512 kb L2 cache and 3D graphics and video acceleration. Hence loading this processor onto netbooks will render the machines capable of recoding HD videos in full 1080p resolution at 30 fps. Of course it comes naturally that this would also enable netbooks to play HD video via HDMI output to TV.
Samsung is looking into releasing this ARM-based netbook processor sometime in December. Most probably Samsung will be the one to employ this first on its netbook line-up.
