Sharp-Wilcom D4 hitting US shelves end of June

The Boy Genius Report is reporting that the Sharp Wilcom D4 UMPC will soon be hitting the US market by the end of June. Online store GeekStuff4U is already accepting pre-orders for the said UMPC device. And for how much? A whooping $1,526.33! That’s certainly a lot of dough for a small device such as the D4. If you are willing to spend that much money for a UMPC, here’s a review of what you’re going to get from the D4:

  • 1.33 GHZ Centrino Atom CPU
  • 1 GB DDR RAM
  • 40 GB HD
  • 5″ Wilde Touch Screen display
  • WiFi and Bluetooth
  • USB ports
  • memory card slot
  • full QWERTY keyboard
  • Windows Vista Home Premium

You could buy two or three eee’s and put a touch screen on them for that price =)

u can get the nokia n810 “wimax” for less than 500$

an EEE is not pocket size so I would rather pay more and get something useful on the go. As far as Nokia, your talking proprietary OS not full windows so that is even more useless!

This is a great device! We need more touch type keyboard UMPC’s that can fit in a jacket pocket NOT more useless UMPC toys that virtually nobody wants to buy.

I beg to differ. The OS that Nokia’s internet tablets run on is open source. That means more free [functional] software than Windows (that would run on a UMPC like this one) I would buy a Nokia and spend the extra grand on a nice full-size laptop/gaming rig. But that’s just my personal opinion. My email is when2k@gmail.com if you want to complain.
