Soak Test for Motorola Xoom Wi-Fi Coming Shortly

Motorola will likely be rolling out updates for the XOOM Wi-Fi shortly. Testers have been sent notifications that a soak test is underway for the slate. A soak test involves testing out an update for a group of devices before this upgrade becomes available for all devices.

Unfortunately, Motorola hasn’t released information about what the update will be about. Some speculate that it is a small update, perhaps bug fixes and other improvements on the operating system.

However, the official memo from the company itself to testers indicates that the soak test is for an “early preview of a new software release,” which could also point to an Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade. This might take the current Android 4.0.3, which was rolled out in January, to the more recent 4.0.4 or 4.0.5. This, however, might be a major update and could possibly merit being sent directly from Google instead of via a Motorola soak test.

The testers for the device will come from the members list of the Motorola Owners’ Forums. To qualify, users have to be in a good standing in the Forums. Users who have gotten updates from the Motorola Feedback Network in the past are also likely to get the invitation to register for the soak test.
