A study made by Semico, an independent research company predicted that total shipments of netbooks will reach 59 million by 2013. Well, well, that might be an over estimate especially since 2008 shipments of netbooks in 2008 totalled to around 12.5 million only. This is just like saying that netbook shipment will increase five times? Yikes!
Taking the whole mobile PC market all together, this prediction means that netbooks will be taking 22 percent of the total market.
According to the report, the growth of netbooks will have an additional trigger due to the increasing array of processors that will be powering netbooks. Already, VIA and ARM-based chips are getting into the scene. And this will affect the production and shipments of new netbook varieties.
The Semeco report is entitled – Netbook PCs : A New Platform Battleground.
