You may have read our Acer Aspire One 751 first impressions article earlier and are now looking forward to the netbook’s full review. Well, we’re still prepping up our own, but in the meantime, you can check out LaptopMag’s version of an AAO 751 netbook review. They give the netbook a rating of 3 and a half stars, identifying its strong points as long battery life, slim profile, comfortable keyboard and bright hi-res display. Of course, it isn’t without weak points, and these include the single touchpad button (which I quickly ranted about earlier) and its relatively subpar performance scores. Did you hear? 11.6-inch is the new 10-inch, and as such, one of Acer’s newest “top-of-the-line” models sports an 11.6-inch screen instead of the usual 10-incher. You’ve seen it unboxed, but in case that’s not enough, we’ve been able to get our hands on one recently and thus, we put it through a quick hands-on test to see how it fares.

The Acer Aspire One 751 moves away from the usual netbook specs of just a few months ago and carries an Atom Z520 processor, Windows Vista, and a very slim and sexy exterior. It has so far proved to be much slimmer than any other netbook I have put against it (except perhaps the 1000HA). It is also quite light considering the size and the 11.6-inch screen really shows a noticeable difference in size compared to other models.

Rumors of a subsidized 3G-enabled 10-inch Acer Aspire One going on sale through Costco have been floating around weeks ago. Now, we have even more evidence in support of these rumors. By way of leaked internal documents, it has been revealed that Costco employees are currently being trained for an upcoming launch and the reportedly, D-Day will be on May 11th. That is, when the 10-inch netbook will finally be available, not only on Costco’s kiosks, but also on AT&T’s stores. There’s no word yet on a final price, but it shouldn’t be too far from how much the subsidized 3G-enabled 9-inch model is selling these days, which isn’t much, if you don’t count the obligatory 2-year contract.

I’ve long waited for a chance to handle the 10-inch Acer Aspire D150. Today, I just had my chance, and for the course of the next few weeks I’m going to be all about it, this post being the first in a series that showcases the device in terms of both hardware and software. It was already a good deal when it was first announced a few weeks back, but now the $99 3G-enabled Acer Aspire One only costs $79 from RadioShack. There’s no catch, only the same obligatory 2-year contract under AT&T, but besides that, the $79 AAO is all yours for the taking in case you’re interested. We’re not sure if this means we’ll be seeing free netbooks from the likes of AT&T any time soon in the U.S., but it sure is a nice prospect. Besides, they’ll find it hard to sell old models especially now that the new ones are all over the place, anyway.

Already available in numerous countries across the world, Acer’s Aspire D150 netbook just got an official press launch in France yesterday. And Netbook3G was there to snap a few photos and cover the said launch event. The Acer Aspire D150 configuration for France is still the same as it is elsewhere — 10-inch screen, 160GB HDD, 1GB RAM, 1.6GHz Intel Atom CPU. It’s exactly the same. Netbook3G took the opportunity to inquire about Acer’s slimline ZG8 model during the press launch, and the company refused to give any comments regarding the said product. Hopefully, they’ll be more than accomodating next time and tell us exactly what that unannounced netbook is.

Hardcore modders will know all about tnkgrl’s exploits with the Acer Aspire One. She’s showed thousands of people, through her blog, how to take apart the said netbook, upgrade the SSD to a higher capacity hard drive, add Bluetooth, and built-in 3G. Now, tnkgrl has posted her very last Acer Aspire One mod tutorial — how to add an eSATA port. True, not many people will be able to make use of it, and in fact maybe some won’t be familiar with it at all, but it’s a far more efficient and better way of connecting hard drives to computers than USB or FireWire. While the process of installing Windows 7 on the Acer Aspire One seemed relatively easy, I’m sure at least some of you are still holding on to the original Linux OS that’s been bundled with the netbook. If that applies to you, then you might at least try to customize the interface a bit, to make it more reminiscent of the Windows UI, instead of what Acer made it look like out of the box. It requires quite a bit of hackers, but it should be worth the time and effort spent on it especially if you’re looking to make using your Acer Aspire One easier. I’ve been playing with the Windows 7 beta release for a number of weeks now after installing it on the Acer Aspire One, and here are my views/thoughts on the experience. Not only will I be giving my initial impressions on the new software, I’m going to tell you how well or bad the Acer Aspire One performed with the new version of the Windows OS.

Before anything, I think it should be noted that I used the “bootable USB flash drive” method to install Windows 7 on my Acer Aspire One. Now, I’m not sure if that really does anything to goof up the software or any part of it when you’re installing, but I won’t deny that there were some hiccups before/during/after installation that I’m sure at least a few other people out there who used other methods to install Windows 7 (via external USB DVD drive, etc. if there are others) did not experience. In any case, the bottom line still is that I got Windows 7 on my AAO, and I’m here to share the details of what happened with you.
