The reason why we still don’t have the 10-inch Acer Aspire One in stores is because Acer is working to “make sure all the top components are ready in this new model, from panel to battery and computer processing unit.”

This is according to Acer chairman J.T. Wang in a recent interview with the Wall Street Journal. Wang also mentioned that the screen they used for their upcoming 10-inch netbook is “brighter and more saturated” that those Asus used on the equally sexy Eee PC S101 (probably true, but the flame war that could result from this is definitely not necessary).

Currently, netbook sales account for about 30 percent of the company’s overall notebook sales, so that’s good news for Acer’s netbook division. We’re going to see just how better the D150 is when we finally get it in our hands, and we’ll give you an update then.

With the impending launch of the 10.1-inch Acer Aspire 103, Acer is said to be considering phasing out its currently existing and much-loved 8.9-inch netbook, the Acer Aspire One. This move is said to be scheduled for the second quarter of 2009, according to a report from DigiTimes citing notebook industry sources.

Quanta Computer is the company responsible for producing the 8.9-inch Acer Aspire One netbooks, and if the same report referenced above is correct, the company will receive an order for another netbook, an “enterprise model” that will have a 10.1-inch screen. Could this be a separate model from the Acer Aspire 103? Seems so, since it was specified that the 10.1-inch Acer Aspire one will be manufactured by Compal Electronics. But what exactly this “enterprise model” netbook with a 10.1-inch screen remains a mystery. Perhaps we’ll learn more about it in the following weeks.

Being the only netbook maker without a 10-inch variant of their highly successful product, we knew Acer was quietly planning to unleash their Samsung NC10 killer sometime soon. Previous reports pin February 2009 as the most likely release date, so it shouldn’t be long before we can finally get our hands on this 2nd-gen Acer netbook. But for some people (mostly geeks like us here at the Eee PC Blog and others who share our passion for netbooks) just can’t wait for the final release date to arrive. And so, to tide these people over until that day, here are several new official photos of the 10.1-inch Acer Aspire One (aka Acer Aspire 103).

According to a short comparison profile created by the source of these photos, the new 10.1-inch Acer Aspire One will only be a tad bit thicker at 260 mm, and battery life with the 6-cell version is said to be up to 7 hours as opposed to the 6.5 hours that the current 9-inch system gets. We’ll have to confirm that battery life claim for ourselves once we can secure our own Acer Aspire 103, but for now, feel free to join us in gleaming over these fine-looking official pics.
