Medion and Sainsbury’s have reduced the price of the Medion Akoya Mini netbook to £279 in the UK. That works out at around $480 for the MSI Wind U100 clone.
The medion netbook is only available across Europe and comes complete with a 10.2 inch screen, an Intel Atom CPU, 1GB of memory and a 80GB hard drive. It comes in at the same price as the Advent 4211 (£279 at PC World - UK) netbook and with similar specs they are both decent value netbooks however, the 4211 does come with Bluetooth built in for extra connectivity.
It’s good to see another UK retailer selling netbooks and becoming competitive in doing so, it can only be positive for UK netbook buyers and EeePC.net have also discovered that Medion have reduced the price of their Akoya Mini on their own website here in line with the reduction by Sainsbury’s which is great news all round.

October will see the release of the Advent 4212 in the UK. The 4212 is the latest in the Advent line of netbooks with last week seeing the release of the 4213, and the 4211 prior to that.
The specs of the Advent 4212 don’t match up with the 4213 and is reflected in it’s cheaper price. You can pick the 4212 up for £299 from UK retailer PC World.
The Advent 4212 will feature a 8.9 inch display, 1GB of RAM, 80GB hard drive, webcam, bluetooth connectivity and will come installed with Windows XP.

Remember the MSI-clone Advent 4211? Retailer Dixons, which is now known as DSGI has quietly released a bigger version of said netbook with called the Advent 4213. Although it may seem like your regular mini notebook, all features and specs of the Advent 4213 point to one thing - it’s still a netbook.
Anyway, whatever you want to call it, the Advent 4213 is definitely not an MSI Wind clone this time. Specifically its features include;
- 10.2-inch LCD
- 1.66GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor
- 1GB RAM
- 160GB HD
- 3G SIM Slot
- HSDPA support
- 1.4 kg
The DSGI Advent 4213 is available now for around $628. If it were to be classified as a netbook, the price is definitely too high, but if it is to be categorized as a mini notebook, then the price is just about fair.
