Medion have announced the release date the Akoya Mini E1312. Just bordering on netbook size, it features an 11.6 inch display along with some great specs most laptops don’t provide. Medion are bringing the netbook specs up a notch and for pretty much no extra cost.

The E1312 features a HD resolution of up to 1366 x 768 along with a HDMI port for connecting it up to your TV while not on the move. The Akoya Mini E1312 also doesn’t feature an Intel Atom processor like most other netbooks but rather an AMD Sempron 210u power saving CPU and uses ATI Radeon TM Xpress 1250 graphics. Hard drive size is standard at 160GB. Other specs include three USB ports, 3 in 1 card reader, Windows XP operating system, 1.3 megapixel web cam along with 1GB of RAM, bluetooth, WiFi and an ethernet connection.

The Medion Akoya Mini E1312 will be available in the UK from Aldi starting July 12th. Pricing starts at £339.99 for a 6 cell battery and a three year warranty. A 9 cell battery option is also available.

UK retailer Aldi are to re-launch the Medion Akoya Mini E1210. The E1210 was previously sold through the retailer in September as part of a promotion. With the promotion being successful the netbook will be returning to shelves this Thursday.

The E1210 features a 10 inch widescreen display, 1GB of RAM, Intel Atom processor and 160GB hard drive, with Windows XP being the chosen operating system. The Akoya, a rebadged MSI Wind, will retail for £272, making it a cheaper alternative to the MSI Wind itself.

Medion and Sainsbury’s have reduced the price of the Medion Akoya Mini netbook to £279 in the UK. That works out at around $480 for the MSI Wind U100 clone.

The medion netbook is only available across Europe and comes complete with a 10.2 inch screen, an Intel Atom CPU, 1GB of memory and a 80GB hard drive. It comes in at the same price as the Advent 4211 (£279 at PC World – UK) netbook and with similar specs they are both decent value netbooks however, the 4211 does come with Bluetooth built in for extra connectivity.

It’s good to see another UK retailer selling netbooks and becoming competitive in doing so, it can only be positive for UK netbook buyers and EeePC.net have also discovered that Medion have reduced the price of their Akoya Mini on their own website here in line with the reduction by Sainsbury’s which is great news all round.

The Medion AKOYA Mini E1210 notebook will be released in Aldi stores on September 7th and will cost £279, Medion have announced.

The AKOYA Mini 1210 has the ‘air’ of a larger laptop and certainly has the specs to back that up:

•  Intel® Atom™ N270 Processor (1.60Ghz, 512KB L2 Vache, 533 MHz FSB)
•  Windows® XP Home Edition (includes SP3/OEM version)
•  10” TFT widescreen display with 1024 x 600 pixel resolution.
•  1 GB DDR2 RAM
•  80 GB Hard Drive
•  High Bandwidth Draft-n Wireless LAN.
•  Stereo loudspeakers
•  Integrated Webcam with Microphone.
•  Included Software – Corel®, WordPerfect®, Office X3, BullGuard Internet Security (trial)

This latest addition to the Medion range weighs in at a hefty 1.2kg. The unit itself measures 260mm x 180mm x 19mm and comes in black, silver or white. It is also expected to come with an extended battery life.

The AKOYA Mini E1210 is an intriguing prospect but, with the Dell Inspiron Mini expected to come out at around the same time we will have to wait and see how sales progress for Medion.

Expect to see Medion’s entry into the netbook world soon. Medion is to release a 10 inch netbook later in the year.

As of yet there are no specification details for the Akoya Mini E1211. Britain’s Tech Digest website have however got it priced at over £300. Quite a considerable amount for it’s size, but it will be a tru 10 inch mini laptop.

Another netbook that made an appearance during the Computex is Medion’s Akoya netbook which we covered not so along ago here at Eee PC Blog and which used to go by the name Akoya E1210. Although not as popular as the other major netbooks – MSI, Asus and Acer, the Akoya netbook still wallops some feature punch that should give the Eee PC 901 and the MSI U100 a run for their money.

Tweak Town managed to take some pictures of the actual unit as well as a snapshot of the Akoya’s spec sheet.

  • 10.2 inch WSVGA LED display
  • 1.6 GHz Intel Atom processor
  • Windows XP
  • PCI-E Fast Ethernet
  • 802.11 WIFI
  • 1 GB DDR
  • 80 GB SSD storage
  • 1.3 webcam
  • 3 cell battery pack

The report did not indicate pricing information for the Akoya. But the last we covered it, the SRP was said to be at around $623.
