AMD is optimistic to bring down Intel’s Ultrabooks on cost and June is where AMD will take advantage to launch, a platform for slim and light laptops (Ultrathin), actually the company mentioned this during CES 2012.

The present production of Intel Ultrabooks retails at $900 up, including some models, like the HP Envy 14, shipping at $1,400. Intel anticipates about seventy fresh Ultrabooks models this year in addition to its next-generation Ivy Bridge platform is also anticipated, it should ship by April; and this will bring down the price of Ultrabooks somewhere between $700 and $900, actually – introducing lightweight and skinny laptops into the mainstream.

AMD’s thin laptops (Ultrabooks phrase is trademarked by Intel) will make use of the company’s Trinity chips, sporting in dual- and quad-core alternatives. AMD’s chips lean to be valued lower compared to Intel’s, with ultrathin laptops appears to be no exception. Asking price for Trinity laptops is roughly from $500, up to $200 less costly than the estimated standard price of an Intel Ultrabook.

As of performance, AMD alleges its Trinity chips pencil in roughly 17 watts of power, more or less the same compared to the upcoming Ultrabook chips found on Intel’s Ivy Bridge microarchitecture. Expect Trinity chips to deliver similar performance AMD’s A-series chips presently used in standard laptops, although eats half the power.

According to Digitimes, we won’t see many models emerging as AMD-powered ultrathin laptops compared to Intel’s Ultrabooks. Just around twenty ultrathin pieces are likely for 2012, with Acer, HP and Asus showing signs of first producers of such laptops.

Asus has added a new such model to its Eee PC lineup, the 1225B, which is powered by an AMD Brazos E-450 APU.

This is actually AMD’s most powerful E-series accelerated processing unit to be manufactured as it packs two computing cores clocked at 1.65GHz as well as a Radeon HD 6320 built-in GPU with 80 shader units. These usually run at 508MHz, but the integrated graphics core also comes with a special Turbo mode to increase the speed to 600MHz.

The rest of the Asus netbook doesn’t seem to differ much from all the other Eee PC models as it also gets an 11.6-inch LED-backlit LCD panel with a resolution of 1366×768, a low-res 0.3MP webcam, wireless LAN and optional Bluetooth 3.0 connectivity, as well as up to 7 hours of battery life with the 6-cell power pack.

The AMD accelerated processing unit can be paired together with a maximum of 4GB of system memory, and the storage options include a series of 2.5-inch hard drives with capacities ranging from 320GB to 750GB. The Eee PC 1225B packs three USB 2.0 ports, a multi-format card reader as well as VGA and HDMI display outputs.

The Eee PC 1225B will start at about 349 EUR, approximately $456 US, but you can get this at a lower price from some online sites.

The critically acclaimed C and E series of Accelerated Processing Units (APU) from AMD are going to receive updates. AMD announced today that their advanced CPU/GPU hybrids for netbooks and laptops will have enhanced HD capabilities, enhanced memory, support for DisplayPort++ (for HDMI or DisplayPort-enabled monitor / TV connections), and extended battery life. The AMD Fusion series is already known for being power efficient but AMD optimizes it further. With this update, the C and Eseries will extend its resting battery life to 12 hours and 10.5 hours respectively.

DDR3 1333 support is also included in the E series update for better memory bandwidth. Faster performance and video playback is also expected for the updated versions. Finally, HDMI 1.4a will also be supported as well. HDMI 1.4a allows 3D viewing, in both still images and home video on various 3D-enabled TVs and monitors.

In the same online document from Verizon that listed the RIM BlackBerry PlayBook tablet as coming soon, there’s evidence that shows HP is planning to launch at least two different 4G netbooks for users to take advantage of their LTE data plans with. Pictured above, both the HP Pavilion dm1 and Compaq Mini CQ10 are listed as coming soon, and are highlighted as being “4G LTE mobile broadband capable”.

Other features of the HP Pavilion dm1 include a dual core AMD E-350 processor, 2GB RAM, 320GB hard drive, built-in webcam and an 11.6-inch HD LCD screen (1366×768). Meanwhile, the Compaq Mini CQ10 is equipped with an Intel N455 processor running at 1.66 GHz, 10-inch 1024×600 LCD screen, 1GB RAM and 250GB HDD.

No pricing info is available for either netbook, but the LTE data plans will cost just like regular 3G plans do, and that means that the highest-priced plan which offers 10GB of data will go for $80 USD. Verizon will probably release more info as we near winter 2011.

If you’ve ever wondered what it would be like to have three great mini-notebooks from three different companies in front of you and compare them to each other side-by-side, or are just in the mood for some kind of geek porn on a Friday morning, Brad Linder from Liliputing has just the thing you need. He just took a Dell Inspiron M101Z, Lenovo X100e and Acer Aspire One 721 to see how they all stack up to each other (literally). And he’s posted pictures. He’s got photos of the three mini-notebooks taken from all angles, showing what kind of differences one might have over the others, or any similarities at all if there are any. Hit up the link below for all the awesome pictures.

Ever wondered what happened to AMD’s Bobcat processor, which is basically their answer to Intel’s Atom for use in netbook and ultra-light notebook PCs? AMD senior vice president and general manager of Products Group Rick Bergman spoke at Computex 2010 and gave assurance that the low-TDP x86 processor is still on-track for a release on 2011. Bergman also mentioned that AMD is more optimistic toward the netbook’s future growth, so instead of rushing to enter the tablet PC market which they still see as an incomplete ecosystem and lacking in real market demand, they are going to focus on Bobcat for the time being.

Asus Eee PC 1201T

6-cell battery (5.2 hours)

Weight: 1.45 kg

Over-all, it’s a pretty good netbook though the AMD does suck it dry at just around 3 hours of battery life. It’s comfortable for long sittings and has a very nice island keyboard. It’s certainly one netbook you can lean to without needing to hit the CULV price range.

This netbook will be housing a 1.2GHz AMD v105 processor and is pretty efficient with it 9 watt power requirement. It will also be paired with an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4225. This will give it a certain edge in gaming and HD video playback.
