Windows 8-based tablets, Android 4.0 slates, even hybrid devices including tablet, smartphone and notebook PC are the most typical gadgets open for grabs. But how about some gaming console-inspired tablets?

This year’s CES, we heard of gaming slate concepts, however, follow ups seem to be far away so. But then, a French company named Archos has now been alleged to finally initiate the move of creating innovative gaming tablets that will entice the ever avid gamers.

The idea is somehow parallel with the Sony’s tablets P and S. However now, Archos has appeared taking a forward step on producing its own gaming tablets on cheaper prices. Perhaps, this could be one of the company’s approaches to gain a hit gaming market then.

Yet, the notion has some vague impressions as to how will this device be formed for the gaming purpose. Will it has a specialized gaming control pad? Has partnership with Xbox or PlayStation technology either? Will it be a Windows model or an Android-based device?

Still, no hints at the moment, yet one thing’s for sure. Archos will soon be making a viable choice for the emerging gaming industry.

Previously, the FCC website has shown the ArchosArnova 9 G3 tablet. Although no date for its launching has been mentioned, budget-conscious tablet enthusiasts think that this is one step closer to its official release. Recently, three more tablets from the Arnova family have been shown at FCC website.

For people who think that iPad is way too expensive, Arnova is the tablet they should consider. Arnova is the brand used by Archos for their low-cost slates.

It is rumored that the inexpensive tablets to be launched will feature the Google Android 4.0 software. However, there’s no final information then available about the specs of these tablets.

The two slates both have 7-inch panel displays. These models are called the Arnova 7b G3 and the Arnova 7f G3. Reports say that these two will have a display resolution of 800 x 480 pixels. Also will equip 1 GB of RAM, as well as 4 GB of internal storage together with a 1 Ghz Rockchip RK2918 processor.

The third Arnova tablet is named as the Arnova 8C 3G. However, no further details about this slate were provided at the moment.

Archos is getting ready to unveil a new Android tablet designed primarily for kids’ enjoyable and educational experience. Called the ChildPad, the tablet sports a 7-inch capacitive touchscreen display, possibly with a resolution of 1024 x 600 .

The device is a lightweight design that is easy to handle for small fingers. It is packed with 1 GB of RAM and a 1 GHz processor, allowing it to compete with some regular tablets available today.

Archos has customized the Ice Cream Sandwich operating system with which the ChildPad comes. It has incorporated colorful icons as well as easy access to games and other educational media through its home screen.

The ChildPad comes pre-loaded with the top 28 most popular apps for children, including Angry Birds, Flight Frenzy, and Pig Rush. Apart from this, users are given access to the Kids App Store by AppsLib, which provides a 10,000 apps in 14 categories such as comics, games, entertainment, multimedia, sports, and books.

The tablet also provides a safe and secure environment for kids via its compliance with COPPA regulations and its Editions Profil-powered parental and web safety controls.

The ChildPad will be available around the end of March at the suggested retail price of $129.

Archos, a France-based consumer electronics company, has been making Android tablets longer than anyone. The company’s early models were niche devices, targeting the budget conscious, more often than not. Now, Archos is reporting that they increased their sales by 106 percent in 2011. They believe they become one of the top sellers of tablets in Europe.

In 2010, Archos generated. In 2011 that number rose to €171.4 million. Growth was up in all the markets where the company does business, including the US, Europe and Asia.

Their press release puts them together with Samsung as tied in second place in Europe in the tablet market. Apple is the number one manufacturer.

In 2011, Archos introduced a number of new tablets like the 101 G9 and the 80 G9. The new Arnova tablets were also introduced, their line of low cost tabllets.

The G9 tablets are cheaper if compared to big name tablets like Acer, Asus and Samsung. The Arnova line is way way way cheaper compared to the mainstream tablets, of course they are also less and less powerful. Arnova tablet, also, has single core processors and less RAM storage than any Android tablets.

Archos tablets do not have the same build quality as the more popular high-priced tablets and also the early models have no access to the Android Market. Starting with G9, Archos was able to nab Google certification for the Android Market and other Google apps like Gmail and Google Maps. This helped the bridge the feature gap between Archos tablets and the pricier models from the company’s competitors.

Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and other companies are starting to get a piece of the Android tablet market and Archos is essentially facing new competition in the tablet space, especially in the budget department.

The Archos 70b Internet Tablet is a product refresh of the Archos 70 IT that was showcased at the CES 2012. Now, it is available on Archos Store and should be selling at major retailers real soon.

The Archos 70b IT runs on a TI OMAP 3 processor clocked at 1.2 GHz and paired with 512 MB RAM, while its 7-inch capacitive screen offers 1024×600 pixel resolution.

When you look at the outside, there doesn’t seem to be any difference between the 70 IT and the 70b IT. However, the power connector has disappeared, and the tablet is charged via USB.

Like all the Archos Gen8 devices, the Archos 70b IT was first released with Android 2.2 Froyo. But with its 512Mb of RAM, it can now run Android 3 Honeycomb.

Archos currently supplies both firmwares in Android 2.2 Froyo as well as in Android 3.2(Honeycomb). The Froyo firmware does not contain any Android Market, which can still be installed using the ArcTools application. Once the Android 3.2 firmware is installed, the device can now access Android Market.

Since it’s been certified by Google to support the operating system, it also comes with the Android Market, Google Maps as well as other Google applications preloaded.

As of now, only the Archos 101 G9 and Archos 80 G9 tablets have the Android Market. The rest of the Archos tablets, including earlier Archos 70 models, came with the third party AppsLib app store instead.

The Archos 70b features a 7-inch 1024 x 600 pixel display. Its processor is supported by 512MB of RAM and has 8GB of storage. It’s may not be among with the fastest Honeycomb tablets today, yet it runs the operating system reasonably well. Moreover, it’s one of the few Android tablets you’ll find with a built-in kick-stand.

The Archos 70b will be available for $199 and is expected to be shipped within this month.

It looks like tablets are becoming more than a gadget for gaming and reading as more manufactures are creating devices with dual capabilities. A few days ago, we heard of a Shenzhen-based company called RenBen producing a tablet with dual-sim capabilities. On Friday, the FCC passed a device described as “a handset of internet tablet with DECT.” Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications or DECT is a digital communication standard, which is primarily used for creating cordless phone systems.

The mysterious device in FCC was submitted by Archos, a French consumer electronics company. And just like RenBen, this device looks more like a phone than a tablet given the “Smart Home Phone” name on the back of the product.

No information regarding tech specs and features yet so we cannot deduce at this time if the tablet functionality is only limited to view contacts and caller data.
