“Netbooks are a very good solution for mobile people, and help to satisfy certain needs, the margin impact of netbooks is better than on notebooks. The margin of netbooks is not a problem.”

Those are the words of Acer President and CEO Gianfranco Lanci delivered during an Acer Global press conference in Budapest, Hungary. Mr. Lanci also confirmed that due to the success of their Acer Aspire One netbook, it is most likely that the company is planning to release an Aspire One netbook with larger screen. And this is understable since most of the late comers in the scene did not bother to come up with a 7-inch and 8.9-inch netbook anymore, but instead immediately released their notebook with the 10-inch screen.

Additionally, he also said that the current model of the Acer Aspire One will soon have a 3G capability as well as WiMAX to futher boost the success of their netbook.

Similarly, Mr. Lanci also announced that Gateway, the company which they recently bought will also be coming out with a netbook of their own.

There you go, Acer fans, better wait up for these new model of the Aspire One if you haven’t bought one for yourself, unless of course if you’re looking into another brand.

Digitimes is reporting that Acer is projecting that they can ship two million units of the Aspire One netbook by 3Q of 2008. While Acer is yet to achieve one million units sold which it hopes to achieve by the end of September, still the company is confident that they could achieve the 2 million mark.

To help in achieving this goal, Acer is planning to release a new version of the Aspire with a built-in 3G module, initially for Taiwan sometime in November. This 3G-powered Aspire One will be released in cooperation with Taiwan Mobile.

In addition, said new version of the Aspire One has adopted Qualcomm’s 3G chip.

Some people are touting the Acer Aspire One as the better netbook than the recently released Dell Inspiron Mini 9, primarily because of its sleek-looking design and affordable price. Adding a 3G module to the Aspire One will definitely gather more interest for the netbook, and perhaps increase unit sales.

Those who are wishing that Acer would still reduced the price of their Aspire One would be glad to know that Acer has brought down the price of the said netbook to $329 from its previous SRP of $379. Although it’s not quite clear why Acer decided to bring down the price of the Aspire One, it could only point to one thing, it needs to be more competitive and is probably not getting any mileage as against the more popularly priced Eee PC 901 which is currently selling at Amazon for $379.99

For a difference of $50, you’ll get the same specs as the Eee PC 901 - 8.9-inch display, 1.6GHz ATOM processor, 512 MB of RAM, 8GB of Flash Drive and Linux OS. So, if you’re not really an Eee PC fan and looking for just a netbook which you can tout around, the Acer Aspire One would seem to be a better choice. Will this affect the Eee PC 901’s sales? I would like think that it won’t really matter. The interest with the Eee PC 901 has already gone down with the successive release of other Eee PC models. But if ACER is still targetting those who have not bought a netbook by now, chances are they might get those in their sales inventory.

Incidentally, other higher-end models of the Acer Aspire One has also received a price cut. The mid-range Aspire One is now selling for $349 from $399.
