We recently reported on the unboxing of their recent eBay purchase – a 9 cell battery for the Samsung NC10 netbook, not an official Samsung product however and at the time the battery hadn’t been benchmark tested. Well, the guys at UMPCFever have just posted up their benchmark test results for the 9 cell battery which they tested using Batter Eater and the results are posted below courtesy of Portable Monkey:

As you can see the 9 cell battery performs around 50% better than the standard 6 cell battery which isn’t too bad considering that the 6 cell battery has a decent length of battery life in the first place. The price of the 9 cell that was bought and tested here is $99 and can be bought here.

Those who are buying the Dell Inspiron Mini 9 might want to check out whether they are buying the Dell Inspiron Mini 9 with the correct battery pack. The Dell order page indicates 4-cell 32wHR battery pack for the said netbook but words on the street indicated that some of these netbooks are actually shipping with only the 24WHR battery pack.

If we are to consider press releases and advanced information about the Inspiron Mini 9 and the Dell order page as the basis in determining what the Dell Inspiron Mini 9’s battery pack should be, then there’s no doubt the they should have the 4-cell battery.

And as Brad of Liliputing noted, advanced units of the said netbook sent to journalists for review came with the 32WHR, so it is but proper that Dell released the same for the final commercial product.

Or we might as well wait for Dell to come out with an official announcement regarding this issue before buying the Inspiron Mini 9. Just to make sure that we are getting value for our hard-earned bucks.

The battery should apparently offer up a good 10-14 hour battery life according to JKK so if you can cope with the ‘hammerhead look’ and the extra bulk attached to your Eee PC (I would imagine the size and shape of the battery could cause a few issues especially if you are trying to balance the netbook on your lap for example) then the extended life this 10 cell battery can offer isn’t too bad.

Is your spare netbook battery rusting because you cannot charge it when you are on the go? No more worries, desktop chargers have hit the market to charge the spare battery when you are using the other one.

Extended batteries have been very popular among the users of netbooks because they make them truly portable by allowing long sufficiently long computing time before requiring a recharge. However, purchase of an extended/spare battery makes the original battery practically unusable because the battery cannot be charged off the machine.

Recently Cameron Sino has come up with an inexpensive solution to solve this problem by designing Desktop Battery Chargers so that the batteries can be charged off the netbooks.

Pros:
Let’s you make full use of your spare battery.
It’s light, durable and tidy.
Gives a nice docking station for your battery even when you are not charging it.
It’s pretty inexpensive.

Cons:
Does not come with its own adapter.
Available for only select models of Eee PCs.
Came too late in the market.
No choice of colour, you have to be contend with either white or black depending on the model of your Eee PC.

Price Tag:
Starting at USD 15.99 (including shipping)

Availability:
Available online at the following stores:

Premium Batteries

The images show the netbook and show that the battery is protruding from the rear of the unit just like 6 cell batteries do. We don’t think it’s a Lenovo battery and there is no firm details on where the battery came from or who is making/selling them. It could be a prototype possibly. Wherever it came from, it will hopefully be available to S10 owners soon and we will let you know as soon as we get more information on the battery and on whether it will be available officially from Lenovo worldwide.

If you’re wondering if it’s worth waiting for the 6-cell version of the MSI Wind, Kevin from JKonTheRun puts the MSI Wind battery under the test and gives his opinion.

Kevin performed two tests as the MSI Wind allows you to underclock the CPU with it’s unique “Turbo” button. Both tests were run with Wi-Fi on, 50% screen brightness and Windows power management turned off. BatteryEater was used to perform the tests, which gives the minimum battery life.

On the first test performed, the results were 3 hours and 39 minutes. When “turbo” is turned on, the minimum battery run time is increased to 4 hours and 59 minutes. Kevin points out that these are the worst possible scenario results as every day usage will not consume as much processing as the BatteryEater. Under normal usage conditions, he believes that you could get nearly 5 hours out of the MSI Wind without underclocking, but 7 hours with the underclocking turned on.

Overall, he thinks that it is worth holding out for the 6-cell version, because not only is there added runtime, but the 5200 mAh battery is designed well to nicely into the Wind, without adding much bulk.

We all know that any netbook’s, or any laptop for that matter, success depends heavily on how many hours of usage the can provide us. The Eee PC netbook series for one have been time and again trying to upgrade their battery power to provide as much usage time as possible. Last we heard, some Eee PC’s have around 4-5 hours of good usage with the 6-cell batteries.

But the standard battery that Asus supplies their EeePC are not are only options. In fact that’s the beauty of the Eee PC netbooks – they give us the freedom to modify as much hardware as possible with our units. For Eee PC users, an 8-cell battery is currently available at eBay. This 8-cell battery can provide 8 solid hours of use and it costs $88 plus shipping cost of around $14.99 at eBay.

The said 8-cell battery was said to be compatible with the following Eee PC models:

Asus EeePC 901 Series

EeePC 901 12G

EeePC 901 20G

EeePC 901-W001

EeePC 901-BK002X

EeePC 901-W001

EeePC 901-W003X

EeePC 901-BK002XAsus EeePC 1000 Series

EeePC 1000

EeePC 1000-BK003

Asus EeePC 1000H Series

EeePC 1000H

EeePC 1000H 20GB

EeePC 1000H 80GB

But of course as this is a third-party Eee PC accessory, care and caution must be observed when dealing with these kind of products.
