Asus has just released BIOS updates for two of its netbooks that reportedly increase the maximum brightness of the displays and affect the way the internal fan operates. These BIOS updates are available for the Asus Eee PC 1005PE and 1001P. Usually, I would advise against updating your BIOS especially if you don’t find anything wrong with your computer during usage, but since updating the BIOS is very easy with Asus products and there’s a worldwide community of users to fall back on in case anything goes wrong, I’d say you can go right ahead if you want. The guys at eeepc.it have been keen eyed and have spotted that Asus have updated their support site to include a new version of the Eee PC BIOS. The new BIOS can increase the memory usage of the on board graphics card from 128Mb to 224Mb boosting usage of video streaming and software that requires a higher graphic resource.

Models supported for the new BIOS version include the Eee PC 1000HA, 904HA, 900HA, 904HA, 1000H and the Eee PC 1000HE which can be found on the Asus support site.

Asus Eee PC 1000H owners, pay attention. Asus has just let out the latest BIOS version for your dear old 10-inch netbook, and it is now available for download from their support pages. To get the Asus Eee PC BIOS version for the Asus Eee PC 1000H (version 1305), you can go to the Asus support page and dig, or click on the following direct download links:

No details are given about what changes this brings, but if it’s provided by Asus, it should be good for something.

Thanks to Brad at Liliputing for the heads up on the new BIOS update from MSI for the Wind U100 netbook.

The update reportedly works fine if you are running Windows XP or a hackintosh Wind running OS X and fixes a few small problems such as an issue affecting the S4 sleep mode. The update is also reported to work on the Advent 4211, which is a Wind clone so it figures that it would, too.

Full changelog for version 1.0A of the BIOS:

1. Fixed auto into S4 issue.
2. DOC percentage item add warning message in setup menu.
3. Update EC file.

Only minor changes but, for owners of  an MSI Wind (or perhaps, a clone of), the BIOS update can be found and downloaded here on the official MSI website.
