You’ve just bought the iPad, but you’re afraid to bring it out because it is such a hot item, and people are either going to make snide, jealous remarks around you if you bring it out, or friends may insist on borrowing it to test it. Not to mention, the iPad will sell hotly at the black market if greasy hands manage to get a hold of it.

Fortunately, Ben at Carrypad has designed an interesting DIY project for iPad owners to use: a book turned into a case. He has provided a step-by-step process on how to make one, and will not cost you that much. For easy access, he put a canvas strip secured with duck tape to be able to lift the iPad out when you want to use it. You can choose to put in a soft cloth at the bottom of the space carved for the iPad to protect the back from scratches, as well as have a cleaning cloth you can use after tinkering around with it.

With so many options to choose from in bookstores, you can put your own designs on the cover, or even use front pages of real books as a cover.  You’ll leave your friends wondering why you’ve suddenly become attached to your book, and you’re never found without carrying one.

Philips puts the “lap” back in “laptop” with this new netbook-case-slash-cooling-pad accessory that they just released. The HeatProtect case can be used to carry your precious netbook and you unzip, flip over and plop it on your lap as a cool stand to type on.

By cool, I mean in both the style sense as well as the thermodynamic sense. The back part of the case has strips of aluminum to help cool down you device while the neoprene underside keeps your thighs comfortable.

You can get this accessory in a variety of sizes from gaming notebook-sized 15.4″ to portable netbook sized 10″.

Fancy a change from the regular netbook cases? How about the NES controller styled case? Each case is handmade by SplashingKoi and sold by Etsy. The case retails for $49.99. It’s noted that, while they may look cool, they are made of felted material so it doesn’t offer the best protection for your netbook. Still, if you’re not going to be taking it anywhere where it needs a bit of protection, the case is great for carrying from A to B.

The netbook tote bag from Ultimate Addons is more of a handbag but, one that can fit a netbook in. Netbooks with 7 inch to 10.2 inch displays are supported. Like a regular handbag it can also fits all your other bits and bobs in like a mobile, makeup kit etc. The bag doesn’t appear to be available from Ultimate Addons website, but it is available from eBay for £21.99 or Ultimate-netbook for £19.99. The bag is also available in two neutral colors, either black, or brown.

We all know that netbooks don’t fit comfortably in laptop sized cases and are left vunerable. Thankfully a few companies have released sleeves for netbooks. Be.ez is the latest company to cater to the needs of netbook owners and have released protective sleeves for netbooks.

The sleeves can be purchased in subtle dark tones, or if you prefer to be loud, bright and noticed, the netbook sleeves also come in four neon colors, bright blue, green, pink or a slightly less bright pink. Be.ez have also catered for both 8.9 inch netbooks and 10 inch netbooks by releasing sleeves for 8.8 inch netbooks and 10.2 inch ones, which will cater for the majority of the netbooks on the market. Whether you’ve just got your netbook or had it for a while, PC World UK have some great netbook accessory offers running currently. PC World are selling two netbook starter packs, a basic and premium version. The basic version will set you back £20 and includes a 2GB Kingston USB flash drive and a protective netbook case from Swordfish.

The premium edition increases the USB flash drive size from 2GB up to 4GB and again, it also includes a protective case by Swordfish as well as an external USB mouse. For the extra 2GB and mouse, it’ll add £15 to the total price but, still a bargain at £35.

The Swordfish netbook cases provide support for netbooks up to a 10 inch display, while the USB stick is perfect for transferring your important and favourite files from your main computer or laptop to your netbook.
