While this netbook will definitely not be able to pull out any magical gadgets out of its breast pocket, it does look cuter, if not cooler than most other netbooks. It’s a Doraemon-styled mini-notebook PC (OK, a netbook, if you don’t want me trying too hard) from a company called KuroKids, which should be able to bring joy to any child’s face, provided he doesn’t break the thing within five minutes of him getting it in the first place. Only 800 units of this cute netbook will be made available, with each costing roughly $487 USD each. Yes, now that you know the price, it isn’t as cute as it was five seconds ago, no? No word on a release date outside of Taiwan, but it’s likely that this will be sold exclusively in that part of Asia.

Laptopmag has just published a comprehensive review of the Intel Convertible Classmate PC which was released recently. The review highlighted the fact that the said netbook sport a kid-friendly lunch box handle and very well looks like a child’s laptop. Despite of this, the netbook would still appeal the matured users.
Among the good points pointed out by the review include:
- Hassle-free tablet experience
- Attractive touch interface
- Built-in accelerometer
- Durable design
- Good battery life
While only few negative points:
- Keyboard not big enough for adults
- Sluggish hard drive
- Underside gets very warm
You may head out to laptopmag to read the full review or check out our previous write-up about the 2GO Convertible Classmate PC here first.

The Classmate PC has been around for quite some time now. In fact, it was one of the pioneers of the netbook market following the Eee PC. Unfortunately, the said netbook didn’t really made it big because of so many reasons which we we rather not delve into anymore since we’ve already covered it in the past. Let’s just concentrate on some bit of a good news from the Classmate PC front.
If you would recall, Intel has previously snagged a deal with the Portugal Government which will be manufacturing around 500,000 units of the netbook. Even better good news is that the Venezuelan goverment has also expressed interest in the Classmate PC with a plan to order more than one million units of the said netbook. If the deal is finalized, the Venezuelan government will be getting their Classmate PC’s from Portugal which has a manufacturing agreement with Intel.
Those are certainly some numbers and would definitely add to the Classmate PC’s sales figures. The deal just might eclipse the OLPC which has been geared for the use of developing countries. Although the price for the said deal with the Venezuelan government was not disclosed, it is said that the Classmate PC deal is part of a larger technology deal between Venezuela and Portugal which is estimated to cost around $3 billion.

It looks like Intel is prepping up a new version of their netbook, the Classmate PC. For its third iteration, the Intel Classmate PC 3 is getting its much needed software and hardware upgrade. Although, there’s not much to brag about the Classmate PC’s new features and specs, it still worth noting that despite its not so successful run, Intel is still trying to improve on its product.
So, what’s new with the Intel Classmate PC 3? Words on the streets say that it will now come with the Atom Processor, an 8.9-inch (1024×600) LCD screen, an SD card slot, USB ports and SSD.
Now for the most interesting part, the Classmate PC 3 will now be sporting a convertible look, so I guess we can pretty much call it now as the Classmate PC 3 “Tablet PC netbook?”
