Clevo’s X7200 notebook has now gotten more powerful as the company has announced just launched the P270WM based on Intel’s enthusiast-oriented X79 platform with Sandy Bridge-E processors.

On the outside, the P270WM has received a much needed sprucing up that concentrated on making the keyboard design more functional as it also backlit.

Customers have the option of choosing between the Core i7-3930K and the Core i7-3960X, while the graphics card of choice is an Nvidia GeForce GTX 580M. It also provides support for up to three hard drives or SSDs for storage and four SO-DIMM slots as well to populate Sandy Bridge-E’s quad channel memory controller. On its a 17.3-inch glossy screen sports 1080p resolution.

Other features include optional RAID, two USB 3.0 ports, HDMI 1.4a support as well as a redesigned express card slot for third-party expansion boards.

All these are packed inside a case that weights no less than 12.13 pounds (about 5.5Kg), which is definitely a lot to carry around.

Pre-orders can be placed right now, while shipments will start in March this year. Price starts at around $3000.00 on an Intel Core i7 3930K CPU model with GTX 580M 2GB graphics , 4GB of DDR3 RAM, a 750GB 7200 RPM hard disk, and Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.

The Clevo M980NU seems as the perfect

replacement for the desktop with the

18.4 inches broad display. This makes

the laptop a tag bit heavier at 5.35

kgs without its main adaptor that

does not make it the lightest in its

class. After turning the Clevo on,

the device certainly shows a wide

array of colors in the numerous LEDs

integrated into the laptop. In this

way the additional keys glisten

somewhat, but also the openings for

the speakers and fan on the front

and rear, in a variety of (optional)

colours. The lettering "Style

Note" also gets illuminated on the

display lid and even the touchpad

gets a bright-coloured border.The

plastic surfaces have a high gloss

paint on the Clevo M980NU and

magically attract fingerprints.

The side edges of the

laptop are available for positioning of the interfaces since the leading

edge as well as the rear of the M980NU are occupied by openings for

ventilation and loudspeakers. Overall 4 USB ports are offered, where one is

implemented in the form of a combined eSATA/USB connection. Furthermore one

is expected to find a DVI port as well as an HDMI output on the left side of

the case. The LAN connection, a Firewire port as well as the optical drive

and an ExpressCard slot are also to be found here. Now, on the opposite right

side an antenna connection for configuration with a TV card as well as the

audio ports are placed. On the whole the positioning of the individual ports is

okay, yet on the sides they lie a bit on the rear side. Only the audio ports

could be rather inconvenient for right-handed people when permanently occupied.

The keyboard occupies a rather decentralized position amidst the mighty base

unit. A reason for this is a bar of additional keys arranged on the left

leading edge. The typing feel can be described as having a rather short stroke.

Unfortunately the keyboard bows in the centre when typing. In contrast the

layout of the keyboard is however well. Also regarding viewing angles the

deployed Full HD display was convincing. They turned out to be consistently

generous in the horizontal field. Also in a viewing position sloping from above

the display the produced image remains surprisingly stable. Only from below it

swiftly leads to disturbing image changes(from 20°). In the Clevo M980NU it

obviously all revolves around the built-in hardware. Thanks to the built-in

Geforce 280M GTX in SLI mode the Clevo is of course excellently suited for games

- or rather it was specifically designed for this. The built-in 5.1 loudspeakers

(3 on the front edge and two in the display hinge) indeed sound imposing on the

data sheet, but in the practical test only produced an average result. The most

important aspect in this device's class is quite clearly the performance - and

here the M980NU scores points across the board.

If you’re a fan of box-type stuff, then you might like what Clevo has done in a new netbook it plans to offer some time this year. Yes, the company does indeed have a netbook, and it’s called the Clevo M810L. One of the most prominent features of this netbook is its solid-looking square-esque chassis. Though how sturdy it actually is still remains in question, some specs make it standard netbook fare. It comes with a 1.6GHz intel Atom N270 CPU, 10.1-inch, 1024 x 576 pixel display, a hard drive, and supports up to 2GB of RAM. Wi-Fi, 3G and Bluetooth only comes as options. No word on a price yet or final availability date, but once it comes out we’ll let you know.
